How To Choose SEO Tools For Targeted Traffic To Your Website

Posted in SEO by trigger571 on the June 4th, 2007

So you have a new web site up. You have worked hard and put together a great looking site. It’s got all the right things - great content, slick graphics, and it’s in a niche that has loads of searches. You have heard how easy it is to get yourself on the web and into business. Right?

Well no, not exactly. We have all been there and found the getting onto the web is the easy part. The getting into business is the hard part!

So “what’s wrong, and what do I need?”, you ask. Good question, but I have to tell you, the answer is not simple or brief.

The long and short of it is - to get business you need traffic. There are a number of ways to achieve this but the most important one is, you need the “Search Engines” to see you. This is called getting listed on the search engines. Yes, just like all lists, it’s best to be at or near the top!

To get a good listing you need to be able to get a number of things exactly right or “optimized” on and in your great looking web site.

Here are seven of the most important things you need to get optimized:

1. Your Keywords. The right keywords bring results; the wrong ones bring nothing.

2. The Right Page Title. Your page title needs to be very concise, explaining exactly what your page is about and it needs to contain those keyword phrases as well. If you get it wrong, you won’t see the results you want.

3. The Right Meta Tag Description. This is a hidden description of your web page in your page header. Get this wrong and you won’t get high on that list!

4. The Right Meta Keywords. These again are hidden and related to the keywords in Item 1, as well as the keywords on your web page. This is a balancing act you need to get right.

5. Know How To Use H Tags Correctly. H Tags are all about heading size on your page and how you use this can affect how the search engines like your page.

6. How To Use ALT Or Title Tags. The effective use of these will have the search engines pushing you up that list.

7. Domain names or URL’s It may seem easy to choose a domain name for your web site but the right one will give you a head start over a poor choice.

We have made a list of seven, but that’s only a beginning. You can spend hours of your time learning about SEO and even longer experimenting on your web site to see what works and what doesn’t.

The truth is, to get into business, you need to not only to create an optimized website but also have methods of testing it.

One way you can achieve all this in a much shorter time is to get help from the experts.

There are a number of software programs available that do the hard work for you but most important, they get it right for you! They do cost money to get but the time and frustration they will save you is well worth it. Instead of being confused and feeling you have too much to learn, you will find your web site up, running, optimized and in business at last…

Write better headlines to increase website traffic

Posted in SEO by trigger571 on the June 4th, 2007

Headlines that work magic for a newspaper may fetch zero visitors for online media.

Yes, headline fetches and turns a browsing human being into a reader. This is the gateway that makes the viewer make a decision within fraction of a second to enter your page. If your headline is not strong enough you loose the reader forever.

There is no easy solution or shortcut to writing better and effective headline. It solely depends on the context, target market, perspective and anything and everything else. Good writers always find their way out to come up with unique solutions.

However, you must consider a few things while writing a sellable headline:

Keywords: Headlines must have keywords that define the content of the page. If you have enough space, use the secondary keywords that compliment the primary key-phrase. It is always a big challenge to make a headline interesting while using dull key-phrases. You can break the continuation of the key phrase but make sure that the words follow the same order. You should also make sure that the words are not far apart from each other.

Brief overview: The headline must provide a brief overview of page content. This may sound natural when you are using key phrases on the headline but don’t take it for granted.

Set the tone: The headline must establish the tone of the content. If necessary, use a keyword rich sub-heading to support the headline. Make your headline direct or indirect depending on the subject and it’s treatment in the article. Though a direct headline hits the reader straight, an indirect headline can work miracle. But, be sure that the indirect headline does not fire you back.

Unique starters: ‘How to…’ or ‘Ten easy steps to…’ or ‘…reasons why…’ are some of the time tested and proven methods that sell. People always love to find some simple and easy step by step solution to their problems. This works fine with technical writing, but if you are writing a gossip story, this may not work as an indirect teaser would do.

Ending: There is hardly any need to turn your headline into a complete sentence. Unless and until you want to establish some question or exclamation, you can keep your sentence open. In fact an open sentence sells better than a sentence closed with a full stop. Be as brief as possible but make sure that you do not miss the point.

Span your article around single or complimentary keywords. This will provide you enough space to concentrate on the topic. Spend some extra time and care to capture the best possible headline for your content and think twice before inserting even a single space.

Winning Recepie in Affiliate Marketing

Posted in Newbie Affiliates by trigger571 on the February 26th, 2007

A regular question I see posted on Affiliate Forums and newsgroups is “what program should I promote”? I think a rule of thumb for life in general is “follow your heart”. In other words, simply promote the product you are passionate about. That passion will give you the adrenaline rush you need to sit down at your PC for whatever number of hours required and do your research. You will need to:

  • Examine your competing sites. Their structure, content and functionality.
  • Research prices from your potential merchants. Is merchant A more expensive that B? Does A provide more added value than B to justify the cost?
  • Examine the merchants site. Is it likely to convert or is it too complicated for basic users to use?
  • Does the merchant provide you with the necessary tools for you to use in marketing?
  • Will you be able to write content for your site? ex. Travel Articles, PC reviews etc.
  • Question your own sites usability.

This is just a starter list, but one of great importance and which can take considerable time. Having a passion on your subject will help ease the pain :)

So you want to set up an Affiliate Program?

Posted in Newbie Affiliate Managers by trigger571 on the February 25th, 2007

There are an estimated 2400 affiliate merchants across the UK. Of these, the vast majority would have chosen to provide their Affiliate Management through an Affiliate Network. This is not a bad thing, but is it really maximising the potential of your program? I believe not. If you consider that most networks have a handful of staff members who have to deal with dozens of merchants and hundreds of affiliates, it might become immediately obvious why. Put yourself in their shoes - would you be able to dedicate all the time needed to support your program and your affiliates, if you had 60 other merchants on your plate? The answer is plainly and simply NO. You would not have the time, nor the necessary product knowledge to care for your program and your affiliates needs.

Keep the management in-house

I strongly believe that Affiliate Management should be kept in-house even if you run your program through a network. Think of a network as simply a marketing platform. One from which you can recruit new affiliates. Insist that your in-house affiliate managers Name and contact details, and not those of the networks appear in the affiliate interface. If you run the management in-house, the chances are your affiliate manager will know what your products are all about, and will know your site as well as the palm of his/her hand.

Knowing your products and site well is the first (and essential) step to having a successful program.  Affiliates will need your guidance at some point, and your in-house affiliate manager should be the person helping them. This will lead to a good relationship between your organisation an the affiliates, leading to a potentially very lucrative business partnership for all parties.
